Equality, Diversity, & Inclusion

Growing a culture where everyone can belong and thrive.

We are committed to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), where colleagues and volunteers are valued and respected for who they are. We want to create an inclusive environment in which difference is respected and celebrated and where everyone can contribute their best work and fulfil their full potential.

Our Commitment to EDI:

  • Inclusion and Belonging as a Priority: We foster a culture where the voices of colleagues, volunteers, children, young people and families are listened to, and we are committed to a culture that is inclusive and respectful. We have an EDI policy and code of conduct and behaviours which we expect colleagues to model.
  • Measuring our EDI Impact: We measure our impact against our EDI objectives to help create a safe environment for all, with ongoing initiatives to enhance our practices.
  • Anti-Racism Commitments: We actively challenge racism, guided by insight f rom our colleagues with lived and learnt experience.
  • Disability Confident Leaders: As a Disability Confident leader, Barnardo's is committed to ensuring that barriers are reduced for disabled people, and they have equal opportunities in recruitment, training, and career progression. We have a three-year disability equality plan and support the social model of disability.
  • Lived Experience Networks: We have four networks for Women, Disabled colleagues, LGBT+ colleagues and Black and Minoritised Ethnic colleagues. Their purpose is to provide a safe space for colleagues with lived experience, and to act as a “critical friend” to the Charity.
