Job description

Social Worker-Brent (3807)

This is an exciting opportunity to be an integral part of the National FGM Centre. Working across Brent, you will be a key part of achieving the objectives of the National FGM Centre.

The National FGM Centre, funded through the Department of Education's Children's Social Care Innovation Programme and run jointly by Barnardo's and the Local Government Association, aims to inform and improve policy and practice at local and national levels by identifying, generating and sharing high quality evidence on what works to prevent and tackle female genital mutilation (FGM) and other harmful practices such as breast ironing/flattening and abuse linked to faith or belief. The service is also working to deliver a system change in social work services for girls affected by female genital mutilation and their families, working with statutory agencies, government departments and local community organisations.

We are looking for someone dynamic, who wants to broaden their experience, someone interested in making a difference to the lives of children and families. Social work qualified, you will be able to work independently, work in a multi-agency environment and be confident in your practice. You will need experience of working on a range of cases, from early help to complex child protection.

You will have a manageable caseload with high quality support from your manager and our specialist team. Specialist training to build knowledge will be provided. You will also be given the opportunity to give support in the delivery of training.

The position is based in Brent; you will be expected to cover for colleagues in other areas according to service need. This means you must be willing to travel regularly in line with service requirements.

Barnardo's considers that being female is a Genuine Occupational Requirement for this post under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010.

Please note that although this contract has a permanent status,  this post is subject to funding currently to March 2020 and therefore should this funding not be extended further, you may be subject to a redundancy consultation or a TUPE arrangement.
